As a child I never knew
Why you did the things you do
Growing older I'm starting to see
The kind of father you were trying to be
Letting me stumble
But stopping my fall
You'd be by my side
With just one call
You sat back
And let me take my time
When I couldn't figure things out
Not even a rhyme
But you were right there
When things became clear
And told me not to worry
"I understand, dear"
So, I want to let you know today
Before I run out of time to say
I'm so thankful to have you as my father
I would never want to have any other
Why you did the things you do
Growing older I'm starting to see
The kind of father you were trying to be
Letting me stumble
But stopping my fall
You'd be by my side
With just one call
You sat back
And let me take my time
When I couldn't figure things out
Not even a rhyme
But you were right there
When things became clear
And told me not to worry
"I understand, dear"
So, I want to let you know today
Before I run out of time to say
I'm so thankful to have you as my father
I would never want to have any other
