Silent Screams and Crying Elements

The stunning tree stands large and well built
as the pyramids of the great pharaohs.
The leaves colored green, confirm life within this tree
while rays of sunlight break through the branches
to dance among the roots.

She sways with the wind
like she’s dancing to the tune
of fresh air and gentle rain.
Her branches bend but do not break,
as they wave when you come and go.

She offers shade and wisdom
if you so politely ask.
She bears fruit to eat,
assuring you never go hungry.
She in no way asks for much in return,

Only for you to appreciate her,
her beauty;
to treat her with respect
as you would your own mother.
Understand she too is living.

So when you continually slash at her trunk with an ax
sharper than her silent screams,
and you drag her across the beaten down grass
know all elements will cry,
although you cannot see.
