Silent Screams and Crying Elements

The stunning tree stands large and well built
as the pyramids of the great pharaohs.
The leaves colored green, confirm life within this tree
while rays of sunlight break through the branches
to dance among the roots.

She sways with the wind
like she’s dancing to the tune
of fresh air and gentle rain.
Her branches bend but do not break,
as they wave when you come and go.

She offers shade and wisdom
if you so politely ask.
She bears fruit to eat,
assuring you never go hungry.
She in no way asks for much in return,

Only for you to appreciate her,
her beauty;
to treat her with respect
as you would your own mother.
Understand she too is living.

So when you continually slash at her trunk with an ax
sharper than her silent screams,
and you drag her across the beaten down grass
know all elements will cry,
although you cannot see.

A Flooded Heart

She lays in bed each morning and night,
wishing she had someone by her side.
She is deeply lonely, although no one knows.

She wishes to cry to release the pain she feels inside,
but the tears just will not form.
She has cried too much before to be able to shed a tear now

And her heart breaks even more.
How many pieces can shatter?
How much hurt can one heart endure?

She sits and wonders,
attempting to sprout hope from nothing but
empty words, pen and paper.

Unsuccessful.
She cries inside
And drowns her heart.

Love (work in progress)

Some believe hate
Outweighs the love
But it is the stronger
Who know how to give love

This world may be filled
With hate and crime
Or could it be
Only what the media tells us?

Stories of love never
Seem to be broadcasted
But I look around and see
Love on every corner, every street

The love between a child and mother
Sister and brother
Human and animal
Earth and all life

If you look closely
You might just see
The world is filled
With love

If only more people would recognize
The power love holds
We could all join together
And defeat this disease named Hate

Universal Respect (work in progress)

We take and we take
But we never want to give
This Earth is our property
Not something to let live

We cut down the trees
And we slaughter many creatures
Drill holes in the ground
Because we really need it

Not all of us feel this way though
Some of us still have respect
We know this Earth is alive
These creatures are our blood

And if us few band together
Maybe we can make a change in this society
So our children will be safe
And know how to live a life of universal respect

Friend or Foe

She runs her fingers through her hair
    Staring at the window
    Thinking of this blank page
Wondering if it is a friend or foe

Thinking of the words to say
    The feelings to express
Not sure if she can handle the truth
It comes with so much stress

But when the paper is filled
Scribbles of ink all across it
    A certain weight it lifted
Because she somehow managed to face it

The words she could not think of
And the feelings she could not speak
Flowed out of her like water
Leaving her to no longer feel weak

So, she has her answer now
This blank page no longer scary
And next time she's in a tough spot
She'll know how to make it less hairy

Trying my hand at Haiku Poetry

Earth so barely lit
When under pale moonlight
Simply beautiful

Wind touches her face
As the leaves slowly pass by
Calmness fills her heart

Sky so blue
While beaches lay flat
Tears streak down

Sweet wet rain
Dropping on my skin
Smile on my face

Father

As a child I never knew
Why you did the things you do
Growing older I'm starting to see
The kind of father you were trying to be

    Letting me stumble
    But stopping my fall
    You'd be by my side
    With just one call

    You sat back
And let me take my time
When I couldn't figure things out
    Not even a rhyme

    But you were right there
    When things became clear
And told me not to worry
    "I understand, dear"

So, I want to let you know today
Before I run out of time to say
I'm so thankful to have you as my father
I would never want to have any other

Mother

Mother, the best thing you could have done for me
was everything you did.
At the time it didn't seem right
but your actions made me a big kid,
Or better yet, adult.

A friend once told me,
these events are gifts
that help us grow and understand
the crevasses and the rifts
that make up one's soul.

So, While I've been so mad
for oh so long,
and while the pain is still so deep,
I thank you, mom
For all that you did wrong.
